Coca-Cola/KAB Bin Grant Program, Howard County, AR
For eight years, Coca-Cola and Keep America Beautiful have continued to recognize the need for public space recycling bins and have joined forces to offer recycling bin grants to community groups, local governments, colleges and nonprofit organizations across the country. Chosen from nearly 800 applications in 2012, The Howard County Children’s Center was one of 70 grant recipients.
The Howard County Children’s Center received 10 recycling bins designated specifically for placement at the Nashville, Ark., City Parks. According to Rose Ray, assistant director of The Howard County Children’s Center, “The Nashville City Parks, Howard County Fair Association, and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce have utilized these bins extensively.” Since the placement of the bins last summer, over 1,260 pounds of aluminum cans and plastic bottles have been collected for recycling and an average over 200 people use these recycling bins daily.
The Coca/Cola/KAB Recycling Bin Grant Program supports local community recycling systems across America by providing recycling bins to selected grant recipients for the collection of cans, paper and glass and bottles in public settings and on college campuses.
