Thanks to a grant from KAB and Lowe’s, the New Mexico Recycling Coalition was able to provide 13 scholarships to New Mexico Clean & Beautiful Affiliates and recycling professionals from rural communities to attend the day long professional training outlining best practices in recycling management. The training offered over 80 attendees information on full cost accounting, getting quality material from the public, recycling administration and marketing, and other hot topics in recycling. Without the scholarship the 13 attendees would not have been able to attend. NMRC will continue the day long training in October of 2013, again offering scholarships funded by KAB and Lowe’s to eligible participants. The October training will focus on education and outreach for recycling programs.
In our rural state these professional trainings are an important aspect to ensure successful recycling programs as many solid waste/recycling managers wear numerous hats, such as public works director, utilities, water authorities, etc and targeted trainings provide professionals with practical information for their programs.
